Mondays, 12–2pm

We believe self-development happens in community. Writers Block joins forces with CREATEQUE to form part writing circle, part tea ritual, and part community gathering. Each week we begin by a meditative cup of tea. Then we settle into writing.
Whether you're working on poetry, journaling, a memoir, a grant proposal, or simply trying to put words to what you're feeling, this is a space to write in community. We'll offer prompts, quiet writing time, opportunities to share, and thoughtful feedback for those who want it.
Come share your ideas, read your musing out loud, help to critique fellow writers' work, or just bring a book to read in a space where literary energy is the focus. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you and uncovering what happens when we slow down long enough to hear ourselves think?
Every participant leaves with fresh pages, new connections, and a bag of tea to continue the ritual at home.
No writing experience is necessary.
“I tell my students there is such a thing as “writer’s block,” and they should respect it. You shouldn’t write through it. It’s blocked because it ought to be blocked, because you haven’t got it right now.”
– Toni Morrison
Salt Eaters
An experimental laboratory exploring radical
ways to nourish bodies and soulsCOMING 2027
Salt eaters finds itself inside the Make Space footprint. This is the first commercial venture we will be undertaking. An experimental restaurant space combining a food laboratory, fermentation pantry and wine bar into one.
The food laboratory is open to culinary professionals who want to experiment with indigenous cooking methods using local resources to share food to customers in a restaurant setting. Open part of the year to the public the other time is spent allowing culinary professionals to experiment, test-out and create recipes working alongside a group of conscientious farmers from the Mid-Atlantic region.
Salt Eaters is an homage to traditional preservation and fermentation techniques. Neighborhood residents and collaborators are able to use our facilities to can, preserve and ferment foods on-site and store in a shared facility. We aim to provide food that is alive and nutrient dense. Fuel.
This project is in the pre-development stage. We are looking to collaborate with culinary professionals and farmers who are interested in participation. We are also open to ideas to make this project come to life in a way that is mutually beneficial for participants and community members . We strive for longevity in the current economy.
Drop us a line to share any ideas, thoughts and feedback you may have! Send email to trish@makespacestudio.org with “Laboratory” in the subject line.
Pig Feet
Community Food shareCOMING 2027
Rich in collagen and a sign of resourcefulness in southern communities, we pay homage to the livestock that was sacrificed to bring us here and give thanks to the strong joints, great skin and resilient spirits that we wear today.
The Exchange
Make Space x Africa ResidencyCOMING 2027
This is a program for those looking for rigor. Curious folks who want answers to how grassroots diaspora exchanges can lead to increased stability, understanding and resourcing sharing, specifically between Baltimore, USA and West Africa.
We host thought-leaders, product designers and makers, researchers, architects, administrators, curators, and social impact entrepreneurs to brainstorm with us as we build out our adaptive reuse space in the Make Space community. We hope this can be one of many outlets for African makers to showcase their work and be a resource for those looking to expand their ideas and products to the American marketplace.
In our production hub, we will carve out an incubator space for African makers and doers specifically working in the textiles, agriculture, and manufacturing space. Come share and be part of the next wave of problem solvers.
